But I suspect that had he not have done it to try to prove a very bad conspiracy theory, he might not have ever actually gotten into the rocket until it was certain he could return safely. It's certainly interesting the idea of a budget rocket trying to get into space, and I don't begrudge anyone trying to innovate and try new things. But getting him into orbit (or whatever), and then landing safely? Clear limits to his knowledge and expertise in the field. He was good enough to build a functioning rocket, there's that.
